The Creative Class

The Creative Class is a project by The Joanna Spitzner Foundation, Inc. The aims of this project are to examine the role of creative work within urban economic development and everyday life. Director Joanna Spitzner will work as a contracted web developer in order to fund the labor of two Syracuse artists. All people’s work—that of Spitzner and of the artists–will be documented. Placing this in the context of the city, interviews will be conducted with those involved in cultural and economic development. Spitzner also will conduct as a critical reading of the book The Rise of the Creative Class, by Richard Florida. This material will be compiled into a video, pamphlet, and online every week during the exhibition Other Options (June 19th-August 21st, 2008 at the Redhouse Arts Center). A culminating work may take other forms.
